Have you come to us wondering why my refrigerator is making a buzzing noise?
Refrigerators are part of every household, in fact, refrigerators are so common I can almost bet you that there isn’t a single household in the developed world without a refrigerator.
The first few times I heard my refrigerator buzzing I ignored it hoping that it was just the appliance going about its activities.
However, when it continued to make these noises I knew I needed to do my research.
So, what I have learnt from my experience is that refrigerators can make buzzing noises for a variety of different reasons it all really depends on where the buzzing noise is coming from.
If it’s coming from the outside then it’s most probably something that you placed on the fridge, if it’s coming from the inside then it could be a problem with your compressor, either it’s not working properly or the fan of the compressor is too dirty.
A very common misconception that people have is that they mistake the buzzing noise with vibration. If you have placed a refrigerator on an unsteady surface then it could vibrate also while defrosting your refrigerator can vibrate.
Because refrigerators are so common, it’s pretty common to face a problem or two when it comes to refrigerators. Everybody has seen refrigerator malfunction at least once in their life, the malfunction doesn’t have to be a really huge one.
I mean, I hope most people live their lives without seeing a refrigerator explode God forbid.
But I am sure most of us have experienced some sort of difficulty when it comes to dealing with these appliances. My refrigerator seems to be very fond of making odd noises, particularly odd buzzing noises.
During my research, I realized a lot of people are going through the same problem and there wasn’t a lot of concrete information on the internet. I realized it was essential to pen down an article that explained why an appliance produces buzzing noises and if one should be alarmed hearing them.
My refrigerator is making a buzzing noise: What is causing this?
In order to accurately figure out if your buzzing noise is a cause of alarm, you need to understand why the fridge is making a noise in the first place.
While fridge noises are a common occurrence they can often be caused by some malfunctions inside of the fridge which is why it is important to figure out where the noises are coming from. A buzzing noise can come from inside the bridge, outside the fridge, or below the fridge.
If the buzzing noise is coming from the outside of the fridge it is best to remove the objects that you placed on top of it.
Sometimes the magnets that are placed on the fridge might vibrate and cause the buzzing noise. If taking off the magnets and picking up everything from the top of the refrigerator causes the buzzing noise to subside then you have your answer.
If the buzzing noise continues try pressing the refrigerator from the sides in order to see if the buzzing stops.
People also confuse vibration with buzzing as well. Refrigerators vibrate when they are not correctly balanced. If the buzzing noise is coming from the bottom of the fridge then chances are your refrigerator needs it’s balance fixed.
Is my fridge making a buzzing noise because of its compressor?
If you’ve been hearing a buzzing noise coming from the refrigerator that you believe might have stemmed from the compressor then chances are that this buzzing noise has been created by the fan. This means that the refrigerator’s fan needs to be cleaned.
You can do this by yourself or you can call a professional if you believe that you will not be able to accomplish this task on your own. If you’re wondering why your refrigerator is making a popping noise, check out our other articles.
